About the "Live your Yoga" course

Yoga is an ancient tradition that developed over millennia in a social framework very different from our own. Brought to the West just over a hundred years ago it has taken root and today enjoys phenomenal success. To keep this growth organic and true to its origins, Swami Ambikananda has developed this course for those who want to:

  • deepen their knowledge and understanding of the history, philosophy and tradition of Yoga
  • get guidance in formulating a personal day to day practice routine of asana, breathwork and meditation
  • come to an appreciation of the ethics and values of Yoga and how these can be applied to daily living
  • explore the relationship between other systems like Vedic Astrology (Jyotish) and Ayuveda that developed alongside Yoga in India
  • understand better how the asana work on the physiology and the health benefits of each asana
  • explore the mysteries of consciousness
  • understand and deal with emotions using the powerful tools Yoga has to offer

Using the "Live your Yoga" Course month by month you will be able to build on the knowledge you already have to create a more fulfilling and authentic practice for yourself. You will be able to use it to stretch mind and muscle, to return yourself to physical and mental flexibility.

From time to time guests who are points of reference within the fields of Yoga, science or complimentary medicine will participate in the course by sharing their experience.

This course is not designed to replace your regular class but to enhance your home practice and broaden your understanding of Yoga.

What you will get

Each month you will get around twenty pages giving you the knowledge that will take you into a deeper understanding of Yoga, and exercises that will help you to develop a week by week practice of asana, meditation and pranayama (breathwork). There will be philosophy in bite-size chunks for you to work with and integrate into your daily life and your understanding of yourself and others as well as a fascinating history of Yoga.

Swami Ambikananda is an experienced and published translator of Sanskrit (the ancient language of Yoga) and you will receive clear and easy-to-read translations of ancient texts relating to Yoga and your practice.

A sample of one of the articles from Live Your Yoga, What is Asana?, is available in PDF format. You can download a free PDF reader from Adobe if required.

From time to time you will also get information about Yoga and its relationship with religions like Buddhism, Christianity and Judaism; information and practices about Yoga and healing yourself and others; Yoga and modern physics etc. The in-depth knowledge Swamiji brings to the anatomy of asana and their spiritual implications will all be included in the course.
